San Diego to Host SolidWorks World 2008

What SolidWorks calls the largest annual worldwide 3D CAD event will be larger than ever when SolidWorks World 2008 convenes January 20–23 in San Diego, California, as the 10th-anniversary edition. More than 4,000 SolidWorks® software users, partners, and employees, as well as media representatives, are expected to attend this year’s SolidWorks World international user conference and exposition, whose theme is “Inspired to Design.”

SolidWorks World 2008 offers an unprecedented number of technical training and networking opportunities. In addition to the general conference sessions with their many speakers, the event features more than 150 in-depth training sessions, 200 new products on exhibit in the 9,000-ft² (837-m²) Product Design Showcase, and upwards of 100 innovative solutions in the most expansive Partner Pavilion yet.

“SolidWorks World is where brilliant people and ideas converge, inspiring everyone to design products that solve problems in new and better ways,” says SolidWorks CEO Jeff Ray. “As it was 10 years ago, it is a place to capture information, develop new skills, make valuable contacts, and leave energized to make contributions to our businesses and our quality of life.”

Keynote speakers for the meeting are Dr. Don Norman, author of Emotional Design: Why We Love (or Hate) Everyday Things, whose address will focus on human-centred design; and Dr. Robert Ballard, director of the Center for Marine Exploration at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and a marine explorer whose accomplishments include discovering the downed HMS Titanic, battleship Bismarck, and World War I casualty Lusitania.

The general session of SolidWorks World 2008 will include a sneak preview of SolidWorks 2009, the next incarnation of SolidWorks’ flagship software product.

The SolidWorks World technical training sessions cover tips and tricks for users, design validation, advanced techniques, and such special-focus areas as sheet metal, weldments, and advanced modelling), and other subjects. Education and certification activities available at the event include preconference sessions where attendees can take Certified SolidWorks Professional and Certified SolidWorks Associate exams at no charge.

In the Partner Pavilion in the exhibit hall, more than 100 SolidWorks Partner companies are showing the latest solutions for expanding the capabilities of SolidWorks software, including live demonstrations. Another special feature, the Product Design Showcase, presents an array of products designed in SolidWorks and offers many opportunities for discussion with the designers.

Networking opportunities include popular daily Birds-of-a-Feather lunches and the fun and relaxing SolidWorks World Block Party in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
