TOKYO, Japan, November 11, 2020 – Renesas Electronics Group (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the launch of its Scalable System-on-Module (SoM) Smart Mobility Architecture (SMARC) portfolio of successful solutions. The solution includes 10 Renesas IC products including microprocessors (MPUs), power supplies, and analog ICs to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence (AI) IoT face/object detection, image processing, and 4K video playback applications, including surveillance cameras, detection equipment and a range of industrial and building automation HMI and embedded vision systems.
Renesas’ scalable SoM boards conform to the 82mm x 80mm form factor specified by the SMARC 2.0 industry standard. The SMARC SoM board provides designers with three different scalable versions of the Renesas 64-bit RZ/G2 microprocessor: mid-range performance RZ/G2N dual-core Arm® Cortex®-A57 MPU operating at 1.5GHz; high performance The RZ/G2M MPU adopts dual-core Arm Cortex-A57 and quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 (1.2GHz); the ultra-high performance RZ/G2H MPU adopts quad-core Arm Cortex-A57 and quad-core Arm Cortex-A53. All three MPUs (dual-core, up to eight-core) feature integrated 600MHz PowerVR 3D graphics and 4K UHD H.265 and H.264 codecs for different computing processing requirements.

The SoM board provides designers with a choice of RZ/G2 MPU products with performance up to 35.6K DMIPS, 2GB to 4GB LPDDR4 RAM memory, and 32GB eMMC. Each RZ/G2 MPU is capable of running edge video analytics and AI frameworks. These MPUs feature integrated AI software libraries, rich interfaces, internal and external memory data error checking and correction (ECC) protection, a Linux OS, and a Renesas-tested, maintained, and validated Linux software package (VLP). The solution also utilizes the Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP) Super Long Term Support (SLTS) Linux kernel, bundled with a software development environment. In addition, the SMARC SoM boards provide optimized power supplies and programmable timing trees to assist the RZ/G2 MPU in meeting various application requirements.
