Nexperia launches new 8-inch wafer production line in Manchester

On June 24, 2021, Nexperia, an expert in the field of basic semiconductor devices, announced today that a new 8-inch wafer production line in Manchester, UK has started, and the first products use the latest NextPower chip technology with low RDS(on) and low Qrr, 80 V and 100V MOSFETs. The new production line will immediately expand Nexperia’s production capacity, and the new PSMN3R9-100YSF (100 V) and PSMN3R5-80YSF (80 V) devices will feature the industry’s lowest Qrr figure of merit (RDS(on) x Qrr).

Nexperia product manager Mike Becker pointed out: “Given the global semiconductor shortage, Nexperia is actively investing in global manufacturing plants to increase production capacity, including MOSFET production facilities in Manchester and the Philippines, which is good news for buyers. The performance of the new MOSFET also makes Designers are excited. These MOSFETs are well suited for a wide variety of switching applications and can also replace products from other suppliers.”

NextPower 80 V and 100 V chip MOSFETs can significantly reduce RDS(on), from 7 mΩ in the previous generation of 100 V devices to only 4.3 mΩ in the new devices, greatly improving efficiency. For 100 V devices, NextPower technology also offers an extremely low Qrr of 44 nC, effectively reducing spikes and EMI interference. Overall, the Qrr figure of merit of the 100 V devices was on average 61% lower than that of competing counterparts.

The new 80 V and 100 V MOSFETs are packaged in Nexperia LFPAK56E copper clip technology for high thermal and electrical performance. The devices are suitable for a wide range of switching applications including AC/DC, DC/DC, and motor control.
